Legal Smriti Society
Free Legal Aid & Awareness
Through the Legal Smriti Society, we help people who cannot afford a lawyer understand their rights and take the next step.
Access to justice should not depend on the ability to pay. Our pro bono advocates give free consultations, explain documents and procedures in plain language, and run legal awareness sessions in the community.
Where a person is entitled to free legal services under the Legal Services Authorities Act, 1987, we also guide them to the District Legal Services Authority and help them apply.

Common questions
Who is entitled to free legal aid?
Under the Legal Services Authorities Act, 1987, women, children, members of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes, industrial workmen, persons in custody, persons with disabilities, victims of disasters or trafficking, and anyone whose annual income is below the limit fixed by the State are entitled to free legal services. The Legal Smriti Society also helps people outside these categories where it can.
How do I ask for help?
Message us on WhatsApp or call the office and describe your problem briefly. A pro bono advocate will call you back, understand the matter and tell you what can be done.
Is the consultation really free?
Yes. There is no fee for the consultation or the guidance we give. Court fees and other expenses may still arise in a case; we tell you about them, and about the exemptions available through the Legal Services Authority, before anything is filed.
Can you hold an awareness session for our group?
Yes. Schools, colleges, residents’ associations, self-help groups and village communities can invite us for a free session on rights, court and police procedure, or a topic of their choice.
